Noise Monitoring

When noise levels and times in a workplace exceed acceptable standards noise monitoring should be undertaken to assist in determining appropriate action. Effective management of excessive noise levels will reduce the likelyhood of avoidable and costly Workers Compensation claims.

The provision of and requiremet to wear hearing protection is only one strategy. Ideally excessive noise levels should be eliminated or minimised to an acceptable level.

Noise level limits:

85 dBA - 8 hours
88 dBA - 4 hours
91 dBA - 2 hours
That is for every 3 dBAs the accetable time frame of exposure is halved. 140 dBA is deemed unacceptable

Noise monitoring will accurately determine noise levels workers are exposed to in a workplace and assit in determining actions required if any.
